Kickboxing!
Went to my first Muay Thai class in a little over 2 years, I think it’s
been! Originally I had stopped training kickboxing because of a back
injury, and then when I went back to martial arts after that I went
back to doing just Brazilan Jiu Jitsu. But truth be told, I really miss
punching...things...um...people.
I live right down the street from the Krav Maga National Training
Center and I had heard they had a good Muay Thai guy there, but for
some reason or another I’d never checked it out before this week. I
really like the coach and took my first class today and it rocked.
Really, I got my ass totally kicked, but it was great. I remembered a
lot of technique and got some of my timing back, but I also quickly
remembered the parts of Muay Thai that I suck at (being light and quick
does not come naturally to me).
First we did a bunch of warm up stuff with weighted bars, including
squats, good mornings and a whole bunch of stuff you guys would
recognize. Then we did technique with partners, practicing certain
combinations, which I was pleased I remembered very quickly. Then we
sparred a whole bunch in 2 minute rounds (this is the part where I
mostly got my ass kicked). Good times!
