So, how do you release things in your life that no longer serve you?
1. Don't Judge
2. Don't Force It
3. Allow your ego the opportunity to experience the contrast of having something & feeling badly and not having it and feeling great
4. Pay attention to how everything makes you feel--is it worth it?
5. Remember that everything is a choice and very few choices are life or death
6. Allow yourself to go back and test the waters to reasses the choice
7. Make room for gray area in your life
8. Have gratitude for the experience/thing that no longer serves you
9. Release unwanted people/habits/activities to the Universe with love

I really thought giving up a croissant sandwhich would be difficult. It's one of the last indulgences to go on my journey to weightloss. When I realized that my otherwise healthy day was sabotaged with this one "must have," I quickly decided it wasn't worth it. So often when something doesn't serve us we feel like we must judge it and obliterate it. But if we just try to get present with what it is that isn't serving us, we can make a more loving decision. Not just with food, but with anything/one in our life that is weighing us down. By allowing my ego to "indulge" one last time, I was able to release this habitutal "thing" with love and gratitude and replace it with something better.

I never got a chance to read the book, but they eat croissants all the time. I'm jealous! Croissants are so tempting, sometimes they call to me from behind the glass...if they're hard, then I feel worse for indulging in it. But when they're soft and warm, they're almost as good as foreplay and then I don't feel so bad because, really, it couldn't be helped.

Why don't French women have to worry about croissants? Did anyone read that damned book?

Terri,
Great post - as always your true-life experiences and advice are inspiring. Debbie Ford has a great question in her "The Right Questions" book about our choices and when we are working to make positive changes in our lives. She recommends asking ourselves (as we're ready to sink our teeth into a beautiful, crispy croissant..i love them too) - is this an act of self-love or self-sabotage? And it's so true - essentially saying to ourselves - is this going to take me closer or further away from my goal?

And Amanda, I haven't read the book on French women but I did hear Mariel Hemingway speak at an event and bought her book (Healthy Living From the Inside Out) - and she referenced French women and said - they don't eat them all the time - they know moderation and appreciate food for what it is - the taste, experience, smell, etc. She also joked - notice next time when you see a commercial for a fast-food place and the person is biting into the big huge cheeseburger, they're all skinny! Such false advertising!
