Yep, that's right:  there are 14 cuts of red meat that qualify as a lean choice (less than 10g total fat, 4.5g or less saturated fat, and less than 95mg cholesterol per 3.5 oz serving).

Why choose lean? Fat is calorie-dense, meaning if you choose a higher-fat cut of meat you'll get more calories, and eating more calories translates into more fat on your body.

Saturated fat is one of the prime contributors to the plaque that builds up inside our arteries and causes heart attacks or stroke. Eat less saturated fat, and you decrease your risk of heart disease.

Here are the top 21 lean cuts of beef to throw on your grill this Spring:

  1. eye round
  2. top round
  3. sirloin tip side steak
  4. bottom round
  5. top sirloin
  6. round tip
  7. chuck shoulder steak
  8. strip steak
  9. flank steak
  10. round steak
  11. shoulder center steak
  12. tri-tip steak
  13. tenderloin
  14. t-bone steak
