You know the funny thing? I had no idea what was really being done other than a "cone" is inserted into the ear and then the smoke, the flame flickering off the wall and the crackle sound appearing in my ear.
Several years ago, I heard about this incredible practice but I never tried it out. I had even heard it was possible to buy the cones at Whole Foods and do it at home. Some years ago, I went to the Whole Foods nearest my home when I was still living in the Bay Area and they said they stopped selling the packages...hmmm, guess it was a fire hazard.
Today, I went on a hike and my hiking buddy asked what I had done this weekend. With glee and excitement, I shouted out, "I got my ears coned!" I had no idea I would be welcomed back with, "Oh, I cone my husband's ears!"
Kindly enough she explained the practice to me: Once the cloth cone is inserted into the ear, it is lit on fire so that it will create a suction to pull up the now melted ear wax. While wax is created apparently on a daily basis to protect the ear, a majority of us have impacted wax which can impair our hearing, create sinus problems, vertigo, as well as balance issues. Mind you, I am no doctor but I've experienced tenatis, that crazy ear-ringing, and vertigo so I am crossing fingers this ear-coning will save the day!
It has been one day since my coning extravaganza but I have to say I've noticed that my sinuses are ultra clear and it appears my ears are even; I know that sounds funny but when I swallowed before the coning, I would only hear sound on my left ear and not my right ear. Now, my right ear is not as fuzzy.
Oh, so I imagine you want the really good stuff: What does the coning leave behind? Right, okay here it is...my practioner cut open the cut clothes and inside was probably about 6-8 inches (no lie) of a log of wax from each ear! It was amazingly insane.
So, in answer to your question, would I do it again? Absolutely. Why? If anything to get some good Chi and oh, uh, clean ears, LOL!
To your extreme dream health!
