Yes, you have to be nice to your mother on Mother’s Day. Think of all those diapers she changed, after all. And what about that time you threw up on her lap in the car?
Fortunately, being nice to her doesn’t necessarily mean you have to talk to her. Here are five Mother’s Day activities you can share – in silence:
1. Visit a spa together for a massage or facial. Ask for separate rooms, “for a more relaxing, refreshing experience for you both.”
2. Pick up tickets to the local symphony orchestra. Sit. Listen. Go home.
3. As an alternative to #2, above, pick up tickets to the ballet. Theater is good, too, if there aren’t too many intermissions.
4. A pair of movie tickets? Surely there’s a movie you can agree on. Come on, think harder.
5. Attend a lecture or class together. Hey, you might even enjoy this. You might even learn something.
6. (bonus). If all else fails, go out for an ice cream soda. It’s impossible to fight over an ice cream soda.
Happy Mother’s Day.
