“You have to begin to tell the story of your life as you now want it to be and discontinue the tales of how it has been or of how it is.” ~ Esther and Jerry Hicks from Money, and the Law of Attraction

I love that. What story are you telling yourself? Are you *constantly* dredging up all the old hurts and wounds from a bad childhood or ended relationship or illness or any of the millions of things we can all bitch about?

Well, if you keep on doing that, you’re never going to create you’re ideal life. EV-ER.

Solution: stop telling your old story. Start telling your NEW story. Starting now. Start catching yourself when you’re chatting with friends and the old story starts to come out. Notice it. Shift to the NEW story. When I was first getting into this idea I’d say things like, “Oh! Well that’s my old story. The new story is…”

Powerful stuff. In another Note we’ll go into the science of how all this stuff works. It’s called “neuro-plasticity” and basically means that our brains are malleable—we can (literally) re-wire our brains/minds/consciousness. Super quickly: Imagine going sledding after a fresh snow. Nothing but pristine white snow. You walk up with your sled and take the first trip down for the day. You go this way and that and get to the bottom. Your course was pretty random, yah? Then, you walk back up again. And you come back down. Odds are you’re going to hit some of the grooves you created from the first trip. You do it again and again and again. Now, by the end of the day, you’re likely to have grooved a pretty strong little sled-trail—making the odds that you head down the same route and wind up at the same destination PRETTY STRONG. Make sense?

That’s pretty much how our brains are. We’ve spent DECADES thinking the same thoughts. We’re GROOVED so strongly that when something happens we literally don’t even have to think for a moment for our old patterns to play themselves out. (Like taking the sled up for a ride at the end of the day with the tracks in place.)

The solution? You’ve gotta put a road block up on the normal path. In this case, you’ve gotta STOP telling your old story and START telling your new. So, if you’re truly committed to creating your ideal life, STOP telling your old story. STOP STOP STOP. Don’t let a negative sentence complete itself. Instead, start telling the amazing story of your new, gloriously unfolding life. Starting Now. :)
