This weeks quote comes from an awesome transformative book, The Science of Getting Rich by Wallace Wattles. I 've been studying this book and absorbing its principles and I think it's one of the finest books ever written that describes the truth about creativity & competition. Read on and be transformed:
"You do not have to take anything away from anyone. You do not have to drive sharp bargains. You do not have to cheat or to take advantage. You don not need to let anyone work for less than he earns. You don not have to covet the property of others or to look at it with wistful eyes. No one has anything of which you cannot have the like, and that is without taking what he has away from him. You are to become a creator, not a competitor. You are going to get what you want, but in such a way that when you get it every other person whom you affect will have more than he has now." ~Wallace Wattles
WOW, right! When I first read this quote I was blown away. In fact, every time I read it I am blown away by it's truth and power and freedom. I recently shared this concept with my students and most of them looked at me as if they didn't know if they could trust it, but there was one student who was nodding his head like he was listening to good music. This sparked a great conversation about the power to be authentic and honest about who you are and your capacity for creation in a given moment. I'm sure the conversation will continue throughout the semester, but that's good. Great thought provokes more thought and with that you can never go wrong.
Remember, time is short. Do your happy dance. Enjoy life!
Wow! I've never thought of it this way, but it's true - you don't have to take anything from anyone to get more for yourself. You should create your own, rather than competing and, thereby, stealing, from others. When you create your own experiences, your own joy, you don't steal it from others. You share in it. I may have to check out this book!
That sounds like a great book, and I think I might have to browse it in the local bookstore. It's interesting to think of it like, "We really only win when we all when." Makes you think about how selfish a person can be! Thanks Motivation Mama!
This is GREAT! I have always agreed with the cliche that money is the root of all evil. That fact is based on taking from others to suit your own needs. This concept spits in the face of the cliche though. Really makes you think!
I like the message the quote provides...almost another version of the Golden Rule. It is tough in today's dog eat dog business world to find people who would follow the philosophy, but more people did, the world would probably be a better place.
This is a great message, one that has been mentioned in many places before. I mention that because everyone who has said it previously has been RIGHT. They may have said it a little differently, but the message is there. It's one we all should believe in.
I think most modern businesses don't follow these practices, and it's a shame, really. People will buy your goods if you have something unique and creative to offer.
This is kind of a strange story to help illustrate the point. When I lived in Hollywood, I heard this story about the people that dress up in costumes outside the Chinese Theater. They dress up like Superman and stuff and then charge $1 to tourists to get their picture taken. Most of these folks pull in about $300 a day doing this. This one guy decided he wanted a part of Superman's business and decided to show up dressed like Superman one day. (To add more hilarity to this, the copycat Superman looked like Rick Moranis. I saw him one day.) The original Superman and the copycat got into a huge fight outside the theater. So the copycat backed down. But the next day, he showed up dressed like Elvis, trying to muscle in on his business. Had he done something original, instead of trying to bank on someone else's business, he would have probably been successful.
This post is awesome! Money is really a need for all of us. It is true that everyone needs money to survive but, money can be earned in a lot of ways. People should realized that money are earned and should not be steal to anyone. You really have to work for it for you to realized the true value of money. Great post!

Yes, true to what he says. I wonder why this has been written only now. I have always thought of this in the past and I do share it with others. Too bad I wasn't the one who wrote it but I am also glad that someone did it for I don't know when I can publish a book. :)
really a great post.you don't want to take anything from anyone to get more for yourself. You should create your own, rather than competing and stealing, from others. the amount of joy u get will be priceless.it should be earned and not stealed.

Wallace Wattles really knows his stuff. I was excited to see that you shared this with students. Unfortunately when I was growing up this kind of incite was either not known or ignored. I recently started going back to college and was amazed at the attitude of the younger set. Many kids were signing up for classes in social work and humanities. I hope the readers takes his advice and implement it in all areas of their lives.
I would definitely recommend this blog to ANYONE. That's probably the most helpful advice that I've heard in a while. With the economy the way it is, it's easy to get discouraged. It's nice to get a boost to go out there and make something for yourself every once in a while.
