This weeks quote comes from one of my most favorite books & authors, "Living Loving and Learning" by Leo Busclagia. I've read almost all of Mr. Busclagia books and his teachings have had a major impact on my personhood, my Coaching practice how I view the world around me.
I always get a smile on my face when I think of his writings which are so full of passion, truth, and joy. Back in the 70's, Mr. Busclagia became famous for teaching a course called Love at USC. Each semester the class would fill up and there would be a waiting list. He was a gifted sensitive person who was way ahead of his time and for that I am truly grateful. Here's a quote from the book on intimacy:
"I truly feel that if there is, in this world, one person whom we can touch totally, unabashedly and unashamedly, we will never die of loneliness. One person! I don't say fifty, a hundred, a thousand. It really doesn't matter who that person is, woman to woman, man to man, someone you don't have to hide from. Someone to whom you can say "These are my feelings," and they say, "Good. It's all right." "This is me!" "That's O.K." I often ask my classes, "How many of you have such a person?" I don't want you to answer, but just think it! At home? In your family? Can you go to your husband? Can you go to your wife? Can you go to your next door neighbor? Can they come to you? There aren't many who know real intimacy and that's frightening."
Why does intimacy frighten us? I too have experienced moments when I feel that intimacy will hurt me and so in effort to avoid hurt I avoid intimacy. Yet, I also know that this methodology is not accurate. I know that people make choices that can hurt, but that intimacy in and of itself is a necessary and valuable encounter. Intimacy frightens us because we have falsely associated it with bringing us pain. Since I've experienced and accepted this mind shift it makes it possible for me to seek intimate encounters with people and thus, deepen my human experience. Who is your one person that you can be intimate with? Share your thoughts in the comments section below.

I remember my grandmother reading books by Leo Buscaglia, but I never did read any myself. After reading your blog, I definitely will find a copy and read it. This blog really made me think. I found myself sitting here looking at the screen for quite some time. I don't have one of those people. I believe I am that person for a few others, but I always hold back with my feelings and troubles. I don't want to trouble anyone with my problems, I guess. I got to thinking though about how it makes me feel to be that person for someone else and I realized that by holding back, I am cheating them out of that experience for themselves. Thank you.
I had never heard of Leo Buscaglia prior to reading your article. This sounds like an author I would very much enjoy reading. Thank you for sharing!
Hi Lisa_72 & chelle123,
So happy to be able to introduce you to another writer who has made such a wonderful impact on the consciousness of so many. Yes, do find one of his books. You will not regret it.
Lisa, I can see you coming into your awareness of what you must do for yourself. I'd like to invite you both to sign up for my free telesemniars at http://www.21Daysofmotivation.com. It would be nice to 'meet' you and continue the quest of self growth. Have a peaceful holiday season.

Appreciating another writer's work is really admirable. It shows you are a confident writer yourself.otherwise you can't do this.I do have a great impact of a writer who was truly versatile.
I always enjoy reading books with quotes of information and of the wise. Leo Buscaglia is definately one of the wise. I enjoy reading and collecting quotes, period. They always make me feel better about myself.
The topic of having one person who you are truly emotionally intimate with is interesting. Today, we are so connected via technology to so many different people, but I wonder if that makes our relationships less intimate, rather than more. I think Leo Buscaglia has the right idea.
FYI, Leo Buscaglia is listed as an expert on the PeopleJam site, with 3 books and audio cd's already reviewed - and waiting for more reviews!

He was an amazing human being, and his message of love is still just as powerful today.
Another great blog! I actually don't recall hearing his name before, so looks like some new books I'll have to check out! And, I'm going to spend sometime deciding if I have a person like that.
Hi, thank you very much for introducing a great writer like Leo Buscaglia. You have given a very fantastic description about him in your post. After reading your blog about this book, I am looking forward to read it. You are a great soul and inspiring us to read books written by other writers.
Keep it up.
That quote says SO much! I am lucky enough to have a partner that I can be 100% myself with and vice versa. And I am living proof that just one person like this in your life can make all the difference in the world. I grew up with no one in my life that I could be myself around. I was depressed and often suicidal from hiding my true self 24/7 and playing the straight. Life is so short that you must find your one. That is all I wish for everyone in this world.
Life IS short & to find joy seems rare. We human beings focus so much of our thinking on what we dislike & so little on what is wonderful! True intimacy of mind is very freeing. Thanks for the Buscaglia quote! He is an amazingly wise person, with the ability to motivate others to bring more love into their lives & the world.
Great message. It's important to realize that it doesn't take 10, 50, or 100 people. We just have to connect with your one person. It is so difficult to open ourselves up to find that one, but we have to keep trying. I wish everyone could find their one.
Your post really made me stop and think. My husband and I share a relationship of complete intimacy - I can tell him anything and I know he will not judge me, and vice versa. However, I have never had a really close girl friend, a best friend, one I can talk to and share things with, one that will be there through thick and thin. I thought I had a close friend in college and got stabbed in the back, and I have been so afraid of getting hurt again that I haven't really had any close friends since then. This makes me realize that without risk, there is no chance to even have a friend like that. I have to be willing to take the risk in order to experience true intimacy. Thanks for sharing this wonderful excerpt.
Another great post. I will definitely find something by Leo Busclagia. Every human has an innate need to connect to others- and I think your post is a beautiful discussion of that fact.
I love this author but have never read "Living, Loving & Learning." Your review and experience is very motivational and thanks for sharing it!
