So I just finished reading an article on masturbation and it baffled me that it was still such a hush hush topic...
Birds do it, Bees do it, even educated Fleas do it.. Okay I'm not sure about them but so many people masturbate.. we see it on television, in books even on the internet (as a reference the internet doesn't really count) but people still cringed when they hear the word... so I thought that I would make a list of words that people still cringe about that should not even be cringe words...
1. Masturbation - seriously EVERYONE DOES IT!!!
2. Clitoris - ladies we all have one
3. Anal-sex - not really my cup of tea but still a cringe word
4. Female ejaculation - If sex is done right, this is the reward
5. Dry-Hump - we all did this in high school, it was the stepping stone towards actual sex
Words that we should be cringing about:
1. Prop 8
2. Rape
3. Abuse
The world has so much potential if only we opened our eyes to see the reality that is...
I totally agree! This is our society today. If someone sees another person watching or reading anything to do with sex, they cringe or think they are a pervert. Conversely, if the same situation existed with the person reading or watching something with violence or hatred, then it's just seen as completely normal. And that is utterly ridiculous. Sex is natural, hatred is not!
I do agree that people find some of those words to be taboo. However, I disagree with some of the descriptions on the words. Sad as it may seem, not everyone masturbates. I know people who think it is morally wrong, I know others who have tried and just not found anything special; point being, some people just choose not to.
I think it is very tragic that people see rape as a cringe-worthy word. The more people can talk about this topic the more women (and men) will come forward for help.
While I agree with you that a lot of people make a big deal out of nothing, I'm not really sure what your point is... It's hard to just one day start talking about sex no matter what company you're in. The cringe-worthy words that you spoke of are really the most important topics to be talked about, so that we can find ways to abolish them.
a lot of times it is alright to talk about sex but then again there are certain people that it just doesnt feel right to talk to about it. I think it has more to do with the appropriatness of who your talking to and there maturity.
I guess my opinion is they shouldn't be hush hush topics but why should they be billboard topics? I may get stoned for this so I'll get my helmet. I miss the days when I could watch a movie and not have to worry about language, someone dying quite graphically, and the inevitable sex scene. Sure we all do these things but why do we need to blast that information to the world? Why can't they be unspoken law? Not to get too deep, but I believe we've seen a huge moral decline since the days when we didn't talk about..sex..drugs...violence...infidelity so openly. I mean I know those things will always be a part of human existence but I think when we began to portray those things as normal instead of really making it clear where the boundaries are is when we took a step on the wrong path. Now on a lighter note the article was funny, and I totally agree with all of the cringe words, though that list needs to be quite a bit longer.
I don't cringe a bit at sex talk. It is a natural function. I would think with the stuff now on TV now days that people wouldn't be so uptight about it but some still are.
I didn't cringe at any of the words or ideas in this blog. At the same time, though, it doesn't bother me in the least that some people don't talk openly about these things. Everyone has their own barriers and that's okay. Whatever makes some comfortable or not is their own business. I have to be honest, I really can't think of a situation where I would be using the term dry hump! haha
Those are good words! I think we should use them more often! People can be so uptight about everything! The worst is trying to talk to parents about these things! You should see my mom's face!
Masturbation and sex are only taboo among the wrong company. Someone might talk about it among friends, but not family. It's kind of a funny topic.
I could not agree more! I think taboo words are stupid personally. We give words too much power in our society. They are just words used to help us to communicate and nothing more. I agree we need to focus our energy on stopping hate and abuse and not worrying so much about what people are doing in their bedrooms...or not doing!
I really think there should not be anything to be considered taboo, so i agree with most of the content here, except that taboo is not resolved by sustitution, but from anihilation. suggesting there should be other taboos instead of the ones we have gives place to other people's opinion on the current taboos.
Other than that, the main idea is graeat
In todays world everyone seems to want to turn a blind eye to the obvious, and these things just happen to be out there and in your face. I for one agree that until our society accepts this and many other things we will not be able to stop the evils that are done to our children. Come on people we are all adults here so act like it ...... I mean it is JUST SEX!
I have often wondered why it is such an embarrassing topic. Everyone knows that everyone does it. It kind of runs along the same lines as farting, pooping or urinating. Absolutely 100% of humans do these things daily, yet hardly any of us want to own up to them. Or imagine anyone else doing them (especially pooping). It's definitely built into our genetic make up. Weird.
While I agree that some issues should be less taboo I don't entirely agree that all of those terms should be discussed in mixed company. While talking to my girlfriends about masturbation should be more comfortable I do not want to discuss it in front of their husbands.
This is an awesome list. You're quite right though, things should be more open in our world. It's old fashioned to cringe at them, but I think people still do because we immediately thing "oh what if Mom hears this". Well, Mom says it too, we just don't say it to one another!
It's true, there's still a barrier about talking about these things. I think that in some cases the barrier is a good idea. For example, I do NOT wish to discuss anal sex with my mother. But in other cases, it's just old fashioned. Society is so technologically modern, shouldn't our conversations be modern too?
Truth be told, I cringed a bit when reading a few words, but realize it is not all bad. Dry Hump? Didn't know that was a cringe worthy word. As a matter of fact, to promote non-cringy lifestyle, I plan to incorporate Dry Hump into my normal vocab. Entertaining read. Thanks!
I've always wondered why this would be such a hush hush topic. It's totally normal and healthy behavior! I've always always been amazed and somewhat disgusted by our ability as humans to focus on the little things that don't matter and ignore that major problems that are actually causing distress.
