Young OnodaI want to tell you a true story. This is a story about a Japanese soldier called Hiroo Onoda. On December 17, 1944 the Japanese sent a group of soldiers to the Philippines to fight in the world war II. Onoda was stationed on a small island and after the Allied forces attacked the island he retreated into the jungle. The war ended in 1945 however Onoda didn't know that he kept fighting.

He survived by eating coconuts, bananas from the jungle, and occasionally killing one of the locals cows for meat. When people shouted that the war was over he didn't believe them he thought that it was was an Allied propaganda trick to tempt him out of hiding. Eventually people were afraid that he might harm someone especially the children that played near by and they contacted the Japanese government. After a few unsuccessful attempts they sent major Taniguchi the superior officer of Onoda.

Although Taniguchi retired from the military he arrived with his official uniform, a sword, a rifle and ammunition. After about a week he finally saw Onoda in the jungle. He told Onoda that the war was over twenty nine years ago. He told him that he is considered a hero in japan, their number one soldier and that the government wanted to award him personally. He gave him a new role

So by now you're probably thinking OK it's a nice story but why is he telling me that? Well just like Onoda sometimes parts of us don't know that the war was over and we need to give them a new role. These are parts of us that sabotage us, nevertheless their intention is good. For instance people that want to lose weight and at the same time they want to eat a lot of ice cream or people that want to exercise and a part of them wants to rest in front of the television. It all depends to what you link pain and pleasure.

There is a very effective NLP technique called parts integration. This technique applies to every situation where on the one hand you want something and on the other hand you want something else or you don't want it. I'm going to describe the technique and lets assume that you want to lose weight and at the same time you want to eat ice cream. Make sure you read all steps before applying it.

Step one- Hold both of your hands in front of you so that your palms face up. Look at your strong hand (the hand you write with) and imagine that you are holding the first desirable part on it. Meaning losing weight, and try to imagine the shape of the part. It can be a glowing ball a cube or something entirely different, simply visualize the shape that makes you most comfortable. Try to notice if the part has a weight or if It has a sound. Do the same for the second part in the other hand.

step two- Ask each part if you will achieve it's desire what will it give you? so for instance if you lose weight you will look better and hence feel better. The answer should be a value like I will feel more fun, joy freedom etc. In our example eating ice cream will probably result in joy which is a shared value for both parts. search for the values that the two parts share.

step three- Hold both of your hands in front of you so that your palms face each other. As you think about the shared values start Bringing them together slowly until they completely touch and combine. The final step is to bring the hands to your heart chakra.

Great story, I enjoyed the part where you tell us to hold out our strong hand and imagine we are holding our first desirable part, this is a great way of explaining how we can overcome issues in our life, and I love it, Thank you.

Story of my life, should I work or play golf? Exercise or order pizza? The NLP technique is interesting. I'll give it a shot and see what comes about. Good story to support your blog. Thanks.

Wow this is a technique I haven't heard of. The story was a great way to draw similarities between the two as well. Thanks!
